If you’ve always wanted to find the kind of neighborhood bar that’s the perfect combination of hip and dive-y, make Lyman’s Tavern your go-to spot near Allegro. This low-key bar and restaurant may not have all of the bells and whistles of newer gastropubs and trendy wine bars, but it does make a great place to kick back with a cold beer and some good conversation.
There are pinball machines lining the back wall that offer a retro, nostalgic charm, while the high tables and long, rustic bar offer ample seating for groups of two or groups of 20. There are always local beers on tap that give you a true taste of DC’s local breweries, and you’ll enjoy testing them out while munching on the free popcorn with toppings like butter or Sriracha. If you show up really hungry, Lyman’s Tavern also has a casual menu of buffalo sliders, loaded hot dogs, and grilled cheese that pairs perfectly with any beer.
